Ensuring that only people with the correct permissions enter your facility doesn’t start at the front door. Instead, it begins at the front gate by verifying vehicles that are entering a car park, for example, cars that belong to staff, customers or pre-arranged visitors. Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) technology, also known as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), enables this and improvements in accuracy and ease-of-use in recent years has been rapid, leading to the arrival of advanced, cost-effective LPR solutions.
From theft prevention and evidence gathering through to access control, LPR technology has a wide range of applications. As one of its main uses, automated vehicle management ensures vehicles cannot access or exit a location without approval, helping businesses manage parking, keep staff car parks secure and protect sites from unwanted visitors.
Creating cost efficiencies
In addition to securing the safety of staff and property, LPR technology also helps companies cut costs presented by the need of around the clock gate security guards. Working closely with flagship technology partners such as Milestone Systems, NW Security Group recommend two LPR products.
The first is the Milestone XProtect LPR plug-in, which has been a long-time offering and as experts in the Milestone XProtect video management system (VMS), we’re able to help customers get the most out of this hugely powerful system. The software’s advanced matching logic makes it possible to compare licence plates with predefined lists and initiate automated options. This could be opening a car park gate or closing a petrol pump if a ‘blacklisted’ licence plate is read on its way into a garage, for example.
Newly released is the more streamlined Licence Plate Verifier from Axis Communications , designed for use with the P1445-LE IP camera. It can be purchased separately or as part of a complete kit known as the P1445-LE-3, where the verifier is preinstalled on the camera to provide an easy to install and manage LPR solution.
A self-contained system, all the processing and storage takes place in the camera at the edge, negating the need for an external recorder or central server, which in turn keeps costs down. In addition, with built-in support for the AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller, you can choose to expand the system to control vehicle access based on further criteria including date, time and place. A simple, hassle-free way for companies to integrate an automated vehicle entry and exit management system, it’s perfect for controlled areas such as car parks, office parking and petrol stations.
