Wirral Young Chamber Business Mentor Programme

Wirral Young Chamber Mentor ProgrammeNW Security Group has been part of the Wirral Young Chamber since the initiative was first introduced – close to four years ago. This academic year, we have been involved with The Business Mentor Programme which involved working closely with a group of Year 8 students from Weatherhead High School.

The Business Mentor Programme aims to close the gap between young children and the business world. Funded by the Careers and Enterprise Company, the programme partners young people with local business mentors who can help to introduce them to the ‘world of work’. By promoting the imagination of a positive future, developing skill sets and helping the children realise their full potential – the programme hopes to instil a positive mindset for the students when they enter the business world after education.

Weatherhead High School has been part of the Wirral Young Chamber for almost three years. At the start of the 2017 academic year, they enrolled in the Business Mentor Programme and were introduced to NW Security Group. Since then, our colleague Bethanne Pugh has been mentoring a group of three young girls, meeting with them a few times a month to work together on a range of interesting workshops and projects.

Being able to work with such wonderful girls and seeing how much they’ve grown in the last few months has been incredibly rewarding. The Business Mentor Programme is a great initiative to promote local career opportunities and inform the younger generations of all the great opportunities that the Wirral area has to offer.

One of the tasks set by the programme was to run a charity event in order to raise money for Radio City’s charity “Cash for Kids”. Together with two other Business Mentor groups at Weatherhead High, Bethanne and her group hosted two movie afternoons showing The Greatest Showman – whilst selling sweets, popcorn and drinks to help raise money. They successfully raised £122.35, which was donated to the charity on the 5th of July – a very proud moment for Bethanne and NW Security Group.

As this year’s Business Mentor programme is approaching its end, we look forward to collaborating with Weatherhead High school and the Young Chamber further in the years to come. Informing younger generations of the wide variety of career opportunities available locally to them is something we at NW Security Group feel very strongly about, and we look forward to helping more young adults prepare for the business world and a bright future.
