Axis launched the world's first network camera in 1996. It was priced close to £5,000 but Axis still managed to sell over ten thousand units of them. A new concept was born.

The shift from analogue to IP in the video security industry first was gradual but has been unstoppable since the turn of the century. IMS Research estimates that 30 per cent of surveillance cameras sold are IP and that this will increase to 50 per cent by 2014.

IMS Research also expects global sales of IP surveillance products to grow by 25 to 28 per cent a year in the coming years. We'll see...
