Wirral Hospitals’ School is one of the region’s foremost special needs schools. When they needed to upgrade their ageing video surveillance system, the leadership team asked NW Systems to design and install a system that would meet their thorough and effective safeguarding policies.

The school’s commitment to creating a safe environment for pupils and staff means that a reliable video management system is required to enable rapid recovery of evidence when incidents are reported – inside or outside of school hours. Some areas of the school are subject to variable lighting conditions and higher risks of vandalism so these factors needed careful consideration when specifying cameras for both the interior and exterior of the school.

NW Systems fitted a variety of Axis IP cameras, some with Lightfinder technology to deliver high quality images in challenging light conditions and others that featured a vandal resistant housing. A new server was also configured, dedicated to run the video surveillance system and with enough capacity for several weeks of recordings.

The school found the IP-based solution to be very cost-effective and far easier to use than the old system which had half the number of cameras. Since the new system was installed, the school has received positive feedback from both staff and parents who feel it’s contributed hugely to the safety and well-being of students, staff and visitors.
