Operational video monitoring at Freightliner Doncaster
Having provided camera security systems to most of Freightliner’s sites over the last 5 years, the Doncaster freight terminal needed an improved method of monitoring their in and out gates, used by trucks delivering and collecting goods containers for onward transport.
As on other Freightliner terminals, the brief was to implement a video monitoring system to capture container IDs and any visible damage. This was for improved operational management and dealing with damage claims.
Suitable Axis HD cameras were installed, capable of providing the level of image detail required to read container numbers and scanning for any damage. The cameras operate effectively during daylight hours as well as in darkness. To place the cameras in the most effective locations, we installed a wireless network for video transmission, which negated the need for digging up the road to lay cables.
The ongoing rollout of network video on Freightliner sites, now encompassing approximately 150 IP cameras, is evidence that the system delivers operational benefits and returns for companies within the freight transport sector.
College of West Anglia begins £3 million development
After winning a £1.5 million grant the College of West Anglia have been given the go ahead to start the construction of its new £3 million technology block. With purpose-built workshops, classrooms and practical training facilities the new building is designed over two floors with a total area of 1,160 Square metres.
With such a large extension the college were keen to document the build and contacted us for a suitable solution. We recommended our RemoteManager webcam system, in order for the college to monitor the progress remotely and build an image archive of the construction. A 3G connection was provided as the site sat too far away from the connection already in place. This will allow for footage of the build to be distributed online for students and parents wishing to see the development. RemoteManager will also create a time-lapse film of the project.
Work began this month and is due to finish next summer when the system may then be moved to cover the demolition of an adjacent tower block.

Hamlyns of Scotland promote their greener side
Hamlyns of Scotland, a family food business with 14 generations of history in oat milling contacted us recently to install a static high quality camera to overlook the build of a wind turbine in order to endorse their greener energy solutions.
Using wind turbines allows Hamlyns to harvest natural energy to power their Plant. As this build took place in a remote location the camera was unable to link to a network, we therefore recommended implementing a stand alone camera solution with on-board image capturing. This video will then become a vital tool for Hamlyns to market the greener solutions they incorporate.
Time lapse videos are an effective way for businesses to promote an array of building development projects and are an ideal tool in connecting with consumers and shareholders over such developments.

Growth of 25% for NW Systems Group in 2010
We are pleased to announce that our finalised 2010 accounts show sales growth of 25% on the year 2009. NW has been growing year-on-year since our inception in 2004 with group sales in 2010 reaching £2,328,000 ($3,785,000). Our results show that IP video is the market-preferred platform for CCTV installations, which is a great encouragement for us to continue to focus on delivering leading-edge network-based video solutions.
With a strong 2010 behind us we are planning for further growth and improvement of our services during the current year. 2011 year has already seen the recruitment of additional staff in sales and marketing and further development of our hosted products SecurityStation, RemoteManager and Streamdays is on the cards for the second half of this year, which will re-inforce the market-leading qualities of these three widely used cloud-based platforms.
Our UK-only system integration arm NW Systems is growing rapidly and we are expecting that this growth will continue for the foreseeable future, based on the positive feedback we continue to receive from our users regarding both system as well as service quality.
Network Webcams, our supply only division, also remains a strong contributor to growth. Following its success in the UK and ongoing growth in the US, we are planning to expand further into Europe during the course of this year. With manufacturers making IP cameras more-and-more user-friendly and hosted video services such as SecurityStation removing any technical barrier to adoption, we believe the real boom in IP video use is still to happen.
NW Systems Group is a private limited company registered in the UK and does not (and has no obligation to) publish a profit and loss account. NW specialises in IP video & security and has offices in the UK (Wirral, HQ, Fife and London) and the US (NY).
