HD IP cameras bring round the clock security suveillance to Cheshire Health Club and Spa. Read more...

With valuables and property to protect, Cheshire Health Club and Spa decided to invest in a high quality IP security system that would safeguard the club’s assets and its members’ belongings.

After assessing the club’s security requirements NW were commissioned to provide a CCTV network in and around the premises. A mixture of Axis and Lilin HD cameras were fitted, with the Axis cameras also providing a two-way audio communication facility for monitoring the reception area. Integrated PIR detectors, which detect heat, ensure that intruders are caught and the alarm is raised with management staff.

Lilin HD network cameras with infra-red night vision and advanced detection software were positioned around the building to capture and identify security alerts at the earliest possible stage, giving staff the opportunity to act instantly, whilst high quality footage is being recorded to a securely fitted management server.

Installation cost were kept low by utilising the existing network infrastructure for branching out to the various camera locations. Using Milestone software for recording and managing the system, staff at the club can monitor the system from their existing PCs, whilst remote connectivity extends the system’s funcionality to the managers’ homes and mobiles.

The implementation at Cheshire Health Club and Spa is a typical example of how small organisations can benefit from integrating IP CCTV cameras with their existing computer infrastructure. Using existing computers and infrastructure for running the system makes it affordable, whilst the advanced alert features, high-resolution image quality and local and remote system access has improved security many times over.

Sony and NW Systems Group have joined forces to create a stadium IP security system that meets today’s high standards required by the Premier League. Read more...

In partnership with Sony’s Venue & Stadium Innovation team, NW Systems has developed a network-based stadium CCTV solution that meets today’s high standards required by the Premier League.

To help manage crowd safety, Sony has a range of IP camera surveillance products designed to deliver optimum image clarity within challenging stadium environments. Packed with advanced proprietory technologies, Sony cameras are capable of capturing detailed video footage of individuals and incidents, allowing for close inspection and gathering clear evidence material.

This stadium-specific solution overcomes the challenge of capturing details of individuals within a capacity crowd by combining high resolution image sensors with state-of-the-art light and contrast enhancement technologies that will produce optimum quality surveillance footage of individuals at the (darker) back of the stands as well as those in the (brighter) front seats. Sony’s advanced View-DR technology also ensures that stadium floodlights do not affect the usefulness of the imagery.

The solution

Typically, a bank of IP cameras is installed on each of the four stands providing full coverage of the stand opposite. For optimum reliability and high data speeds each group of cameras is served via a fibre backbone that runs from the CCTV control room.

High capacity servers and storage units handle high frame rate, high resolution video capture on match days with the CCTV operators being able to follow live events closely via an intuitive, user-friendly control interface and a high definition video wall. Mission-critical failover and backup systems ensure maximum operable reliability and data safety.

As part of the complete solution, we also offer the design and delivery of a custom-made control desk with integrated video displays and controls.

Future proof investment

Customers can be assured that the investment is future-proof. The system has a scalable, open platform at its core, enabling users to develop the system if requirements change or expansion is needed over time.

Being network-based, our stadium CCTV solution can also be integrated with other control systems such as EPOS systems, number plate recognition or access control whilst advanced video analytics can be added for crowd control around the stadium.

Our high-standard, all-encompassing service delivery is all part of our integrated stadium CCTV solution, providing the support required to ensure optimised system performance for its lifetime.

The system has been tried and tested and is ready for deployment in any stadium environment now.

Axis mega pixel cameras have been installed alongside Streamdays 2 to stream video of a DNSSEC root server, a key element in internet safety.

With a large portion of the population online, and an average internet use of 30 hours per week it has become apparent since its inception that the internet is a worldwide phenomenon.

Unfortunately, hackers are also now a large part of internet culture. Often finding new and more intelligent ways in which to dupe unsuspecting internet users. A popular hacking method involves changing DNS names to redirect users to an IP address of the hackers choosing.

DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extension) is designed to stop this, meaning if your intended site and system supports DNSSEC then you are guaranteed to land on your intended page.

Packet Clearing House is a non-profit research institute that supports operations and analysis in the areas of Internet traffic exchange, routing economics, and global network development. PCH installed three Axis mega pixel cameras alongside our live web streaming service Streamdays 2 to give visitors to their site a chance to see one of their DNSSEC root servers at their Zurich base in action. This server and others like it are the future of the internet and its progression. These cameras now allow viewers a rare glimpse of one of the key elements that keep the internet safe and stable.

Watch them at https://prefix.pch.net/applications/dnssec/zurich.php

With spring just around the corner Mainsgill Farm have invested in an Axis HD pan-tilt zoom camera alongside Streamdays 2, our live web streaming service. The IP camera has been placed inside the Ewe pen at the farm and Streamdays 2 allows visitors to oversee this year’s lambing take place via a live web stream on their site. Set to patrol, the webcam rotates to show different areas of the pen at set intervals without a staff member having to monitor and move it; allowing viewers to see the Ewe’s still waiting to give birth and those that have, alongside their newborns.

Mainsgill Farm has been voted National Champion of the year by the AA Hospitality Awards. Popular with local residents and passing travellers alike, Mainsgill has something for everyone to enjoy. From a superbly stocked Farm Shop to locally produced fruit, vegetables and cheeses.

This time of year always provides a lot of excitement at the farm as the Ewe’s prepare to give birth to this season’s lambs, and now visitors to the site will be able to watch events unfold – live.

Merthyr Tydfil Civic Centre commissioned NW Systems Group to expand their security system coverage to include the local leisure centre, where security incidents had been an ongoing problem.

With an existing security system containing over 40 Axis cameras, Merthyr Tydfil County Council wanted to perform a health-check on its system infrastructure as the Milestone-based CCTV recording system was not delivering the results required.

Our initial task was to check and reconfigure the system correctly and advise on an improved storage infrastructure to meet the Council’s requirement of a 31 day CCTV archive.

The council were also aware of a few security incidents at the leisure centre opposite their Civic Centre building, and despite a newly constructed analogue CCTV system being in place, it was failing to provide the cover required within the fitness suite. With data connection already in place between the two buildings we were able to expand the Civic Centre’s system to include new cameras spread across buildings.

Additional Axis megapixel cameras were deployed within the leisure centre. A new recording server was installed and the leisure centre security staff were given access to the CCTV system and all camera’s in the complex via their existing PC workstations.

Knowsley Community College incorporate access control software into their on-site barriers to control vehicle access onto their grounds.

Knowsley Community College wanted to gain greater control over who entered both their Roby and Kirkby campus sites via vehicle. Like many colleges Knowsley wanted to make their sites more secure whilst limiting access to only those with permission to park on-site.

In order for us to provide a solution we integrated Paxton Access Control with Milestone software at the on-site barriers. Staff members were given access cards, which when swiped at the barrier would allow their vehicle to gain entry.

At each barrier we installed a comms box with audio facilities and an analogue camera coupled with a network video encoder. When a driver without a card requires access, a push button triggers Milestone recording software and allows reception staff to see and talk interactively with them. Staff can then choose whether to open the barrier. The Paxton software logs the recorded video clips for reference at a later date.

At the Roby centre we also fitted additional Axis IP cameras to point towards the barrier allowing for images to be captured from the rear of the vehicles for number plate capturing, enhancing site security and visitor management.

The existing barriers were a simple, stand-alone system. We integrated the barriers with Paxton control modules into a Milestone video management and recording system using Axis network cameras to provide the video feeds.

Simons Group and Marks and Spencer commission a RemoteManager system to oversee the inner build of the largest M&S store outside of London.

In 2006 Simons Group and Marks and Spencer were given approval to create the largest M&S store outside of London. Based at the popular Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet the build would take approximately two years and would also be one of the largest sustainable retail spaces in the world.

Initially a video company were commissioned to capture the frame erection and main build on the site, unfortunately as this was an unsuccessful installation both Simons Group and Marks and Spencer felt a more specialist company should be brought on board.

NW Systems Group were then approached and appointed to install eight Mobotix high resolution cameras to oversee the next stages of the project which included the inside build and fit-up of the store. By utilising our RemoteManager system operatives would not only be able to oversee the project as it happens but would be able to create a time-lapse movie for promotional purposes upon the build’s completion.

In order for the cameras to link back to the site cabins we provided a wireless connection alongside the camera system. This not only allowed users to monitor the cameras on site but gave Simons Group the ability to connect their clients to the system allowing Marks and Spencer to remotely monitor the site from their office in London, providing real-time updates of progress on the project.

With the build nearing completion Simons Group and Marks and Spencer have been consistently impressed by the RemoteManager system. Ed Dixon for Simon’s Group commented “To date, the quality of service provided has been exemplary. A very impressive user interface, diligent installation operatives, excellent customer support and personable account management from key staff.”

St. Saviours school commission the installation of a Mobotix-based IP security system to improve its site security, alongside monitoring staff and pupils.

A few months ago we installed a trial security system for St. Saviours Primary School in Birmingham as the school was unable to decide which cameras suited their purpose best. Like many schools St. Saviours were looking for additional protection from theft and vandalism at night whilst monitoring and protecting both staff and pupils during the day.

To help the school decide which system would be best we installed both a Sony SNC-DH160 HD network dome and a Mobotix M24 3 megapixel camera combined with Milestone Xprotect software. Both were fitted to overlook the car park and vehicle entrance. After a two week trial the school moved forward with a mixture of 10 Mobotix cameras as it was found that the high megapixel resolution with the 90 degree wide angle view provided more coverage of the grounds.

The Mobotix camera system has since been installed and commissioned.

The school have been impressed with the entire system. Shofi Alom, ICT Operations Manager at St Saviours, commented: “The cameras have been excellent and work flawlessly; the picture quality is superb and is so much easier to manage.”

With our video streaming service Streamdays 2 proving to be a successful tool for attracting more web visitors it has become a camera system with global demand.

The latest tourist authority to utilize our Streamdays software came from Vancouver, Washington. The City of Vancouver tourism board required an IP camera which would overlook the city and the Washington and Oregon border and a high quality streaming system that would allow visitors to their site a glimpse of what the city had to offer, along with a quality view of the iconic Mount Hood. This would also provide them with a vital marketing tool in attracting new visitors to the area.

We utilized an existing Axis Q6035-E which had been positioned on top of the City Hall, this outdoor dome camera offers protection in all weather conditions, 20x optical zoom and high definition footage at 25 frames per second; which alongside our Streamdays 2 service provides a clear and uninterrupted stream on the site.

Take a look at Vancouver’s streaming webcam

Axis HD camera installed to improve monitoring system at Freightliner Doncaster site.

Having provided camera security systems to most of Freightliner’s sites over the last 5 years, the Doncaster freight terminal needed an improved method of monitoring their in and out gates, used by trucks delivering and collecting goods containers for onward transport.

As on other Freightliner terminals, the brief was to implement a video monitoring system to capture container IDs and any visible damage. This was for improved operational management and dealing with damage claims.

Suitable Axis HD cameras were installed, capable of providing the level of image detail required to read container numbers and scanning for any damage. The cameras operate effectively during daylight hours as well as in darkness. To place the cameras in the most effective locations, we installed a wireless network for video transmission, which negated the need for digging up the road to lay cables.

The ongoing rollout of network video on Freightliner sites, now encompassing approximately 150 IP cameras, is evidence that the system delivers operational benefits and returns for companies within the freight transport sector.

RemoteManager webcam system installed for the surveillance of a £3million technology block build for the College of West Anglia.

After winning a £1.5 million grant the College of West Anglia have been given the go ahead to start the construction of its new £3 million technology block. With purpose-built workshops, classrooms and practical training facilities the new building is designed over two floors with a total area of 1,160 Square metres.

With such a large extension the college were keen to document the build and contacted us for a suitable solution. We recommended our RemoteManager webcam system, in order for the college to monitor the progress remotely and build an image archive of the construction. A 3G connection was provided as the site sat too far away from the connection already in place. This will allow for footage of the build to be distributed online for students and parents wishing to see the development. RemoteManager will also create a time-lapse film of the project.

Work began this month and is due to finish next summer when the system may then be moved to cover the demolition of an adjacent tower block.

NW Systems Group install a stand alone camera with onboard image capturing to record the build of a wind turbine for Hamlyns of Scotland.

Hamlyns of Scotland, a family food business with 14 generations of history in oat milling contacted us recently to install a static high quality camera to overlook the build of a wind turbine in order to endorse their greener energy solutions.

Using wind turbines allows Hamlyns to harvest natural energy to power their Plant. As this build took place in a remote location the camera was unable to link to a network, we therefore recommended implementing a stand alone camera solution with on-board image capturing. This video will then become a vital tool for Hamlyns to market the greener solutions they incorporate.

Time lapse videos are an effective way for businesses to promote an array of building development projects and are an ideal tool in connecting with consumers and shareholders over such developments.

NW Systems Group launches its new hosted streaming webcam service Streamdays 2, an upgraded Streamdays with across-the-board compatibility on handhelds and desktops. Streaming video webcams on the web have never been better.

It’s here, we have launched Streamdays 2, our improved webcam hosting service offering live video streaming on the web at full screen resolutions and without viewer number limitations.

Streamdays 2 is ideal for organisations in the tourism and leisure industry or anybody wishing to enhance their website with live streaming webcam content. With a track record since 2005, Streamdays is a proven marketing tool for attracting additional web traffic and generating extra business.

Our new service replaces the previous Streamdays hosting packages Direct, Relay and Truestream. With the removal of frame rate and viewer number limitations, Streamdays 2 has become available as one simple package and at an affordable, fixed monthly cost.

Using HD network cameras with h.264 compression, we now offer high image quality at frame rates up to 30 frames per second. The service is better than ever before.

And what about compatibility? Well, we have made some great improvements here too. Browser support has been widened by using Flash and iOS compatible video streaming. This means that live cameras can now be watched on a PC, Mac or Linux machine and also on the iPhone, iPad and Android handhelds.

We are excited about Streamdays 2, as it brings a new dimension to the web. A cost-barrier has been removed, making high quality video streaming affordable to everyone, allowing widespread adoption across the web from hereon. With Streamdays 2 we hope do our bit to improve the quality of the web. No more compromised-quality webcams.

For more information about Streamdays 2 and to see cameras in action, go to www.streamdays.com

We are pleased to announce that our finalised 2010 accounts show sales growth of 25% on the year 2009. NW has been growing year-on-year since our inception in 2004 with group sales in 2010 reaching £2,328,000 ($3,785,000). Our results show that IP video is the market-preferred platform for CCTV installations, which is a great encouragement for us to continue to focus on delivering leading-edge network-based video solutions.

With a strong 2010 behind us we are planning for further growth and improvement of our services during the current year. 2011 year has already seen the recruitment of additional staff in sales and marketing and further development of our hosted products SecurityStation, RemoteManager and Streamdays is on the cards for the second half of this year, which will re-inforce the market-leading qualities of these three widely used cloud-based platforms.

Our UK-only system integration arm NW Systems is growing rapidly and we are expecting that this growth will continue for the foreseeable future, based on the positive feedback we continue to receive from our users regarding both system as well as service quality.

Network Webcams, our supply only division, also remains a strong contributor to growth. Following its success in the UK and ongoing growth in the US, we are planning to expand further into Europe during the course of this year. With manufacturers making IP cameras more-and-more user-friendly and hosted video services such as SecurityStation removing any technical barrier to adoption, we believe the real boom in IP video use is still to happen.

NW Systems Group is a private limited company registered in the UK and does not (and has no obligation to) publish a profit and loss account. NW specialises in IP video & security and has offices in the UK (Wirral, HQ, Fife and London) and the US (NY).

The town hall areas of Inverurie and Banchory are now live on Streamdays. Also, in the bicentennial year of Bell Rock Lighthouse, the installation in Signal Tower museum will serve as a lookout onto the nearby harbour and abbey.

The town halls of Banchory and Inverurie are now viewable on Streamdays, NW Systems Group’s live webcam streaming service. Installed in May 2011, the Streamdays cameras give visitors instant round-the-clock access to a live video feed of the town halls.

Since 2006, the presence of IP cameras installed by NW Systems around Aberdeenshire has not merely improved security, but has also proven particularly useful for tourists planning to visit the area. NW Systems’ newest installations are no different. The cameras in Inverurie and Banchory are both Axis P5534-E IP cameras, featuring a vandal-resistant casing and capabilities that are far in advance of traditional CCTV analogue camera solutions.

High-definition footage is streamed at HD 720p, with viewers benefitting from 360° views and a controllable pan/tilt/zoom function for the widest and most dynamic views across each town. As far as security is concerned, the powerful 18x optical zoom function provides an ideal way to focus on areas of concern.

In April 2011, ahead of the installations, ICT manager of Aberdeenshire Paul Brown stated,

“These are fantastic cameras, in my opinion it is a great use of the council’s budget in a challenging economy. Last year we generated 260,000 visitors, and the volume of traffic keeps increasing. Everyone from surfers to policemen hugely welcome the service provided by NW Systems.”

NW Systems made live another camera on Wednesday 18th May, for Angus council, at the Signal Tower museum. With the museum undergoing extensive refurbishment ahead of the nearby Bell Rock Lighthouse’s bicentennial year, a webcam was ordered for the museum to capture a view of the lighthouse 11 miles offshore, along with the surrounding harbour and abbey.

Specifically, the museum required a pan/tilt/zoom camera with a large enough zoom to be able to see the lighthouse from the shore. While the test runs were pleasing, the final result far exceeded NW Systems’ own expectations. The museum and lighthouse are connected by a long history, and the new IP network camera reinforces this by not only making live video available to tourists, but also providing a real time view of conditions at sea.
